Borrowed from Middle Korean ᄀᆞᄅᆞᆷ〮 (Yale: kòlóm), revived in the twentieth century as a poetic native alternative to Sino-Korean 강 (江, gang).

Sino-Korean word from 伽藍. It is a contraction of 승가람마 (僧伽藍摩, seunggaramma), which is a transcription of Sanskrit संघाराम (saṃghārāma).
