Alternative forms
- 電子頭脳 (denshi zunō)
Etymology
Borrowed from Chinese 電腦/电脑 (diànnǎo, literally “electronic brain”).[1][2][3]
Uncommon, and not included in all dictionaries.[4] Sometimes described as a shortening of 電子頭脳 (denshi zunō).[5]
Usage notes
- In popular culture, it is often used for stylistic or artistic effect, as a Sinitic two-kanji equivalent to コンピューター (konpyūtā). It is still a "Chinese language (中国語)"[1][2][3] exoticism.
- For example, this list of pages on the Japanese Wikipedia that begin with 電脳.
- It is also used in scholarly circles for brevity,[2] similarly due to its nature as a Sinitic two-kanji equivalent to コンピューター (konpyūtā). It is usually found as the first part in a Sinitic compound rather than alone.[1]
