Etymology

From the Analects, Book 3 (《論語·八佾》):

子曰:「《關雎》,樂而不淫哀而不傷。」 [Classical Chinese, trad.]
子曰:“《关雎》,乐而不淫哀而不伤。” [Classical Chinese, simp.]

Zǐyuē: ““Guān Jū”, lè ér bù yín, āi ér bù shāng.” [Pinyin]
The Master said, "The Guan Ju (《關雎》) is expressive of enjoyment without being licentious, and of grief without being hurtfully excessive."
