Etymology
⟨ape2ku⟩ → /apəɨku/ → */afeku/ → /afeɡu/ → /aweɡu/ → /aeɡu/
Shift from Old Japanese 喘く (⟨ape2ku⟩ → aeku), voicing apparent possibly in Early Middle Japanese or sometime after the Heian period.[1]
