Etymology

Originally an alias of 文淵閣, an imperial library of the Ming Dynasty, where the Grand Secretariat was based. The word for "cabinet", as in the modern sense, was first repurposed in 1844 by Samuel Wells Williams' publication of English and Chinese Vocabulary in the Court Dialect.
