Etymology

Borrowed from Dutch kamille.[1] represented 促音 (sokuon) at a time when Japanese did not have an orthographical distinction between and , and a geminated r was (and still is) foreign to Japanese; hence a spelling pronunciation of kamitsure instead of kamirre.
