ἔπεφνον
Ancient Greek
Etymology
From Proto-Hellenic *kʷʰékʷʰnon, a reduplicated second aorist from zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰen-, which also gives θείνω (theínō, “to strike”). The labiovelar *gʷʰ developed into a different consonant in each verb. See that entry for cognates.
