ἐνεός
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- ἐννεός (enneós)
Etymology
The form is similar to κενεός (keneós), but has no clear etymology. Brugmann connects the word with εὖνις (eûnis), but this claim is refused by Kretschmer. Furnée compares νενός (nenós, “meek, silly”) and further νενίηλος (neníēlos), hinting at a Pre-Greek origin.
