Etymology

From earlier Ἀρταξέσσης (Artaxéssēs), assimilated to the name Ξέρξης (Xérxēs),[1] borrowed from Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 (Artaxšaçā-), itself from 𐎠𐎼𐎫 (Arta, truth, justice, right order) + *xšaçā- (power, empire).[2]
