ἀρτάω

Ancient Greek

Etymology

This verb is reconstructed as *ἀϝερτάω (*awertáō), from ἀείρω (aeírō, to bind, hang), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wer-, but the derivation is unusual. Confront ἀρτήρ (artḗr) and ἀρτηρία (artēría).
