From Proto-Igboid *ɔ́-`-n`ʊ̌. Cognate with Ekpeye ʊ́ꜜnʊ́, Ogbah ɔ́ꜜnʊ́, Izi ɔ́nʊ́, Ezaa ɔ́nʊ́, Ika ɔ́ꜜnʊ́.[1] Further cognates include Proto-Yoruboid *ɛ́-lʊ̃ or Proto-Yoruboid *á-rʊ̃ã (Yoruba ẹnu), Igala álu and possibly Gun ònù.
