From Proto-Southwestern Tai *lɤkᴰˢ⁴ (“deep”), from Proto-Tai *lɤkᴰ (“deep”). Cognate with Thai ลึก (lʉ́k), Northern Thai ᩃᩮᩥᩢ᩠ᨠ, Southern Thai หลึก, Lao ເລິກ (lœk) or ລຶກ (lưk), Shan လိုၵ်ႉ (lṵ̂ek), Ahom 𑜎𑜢𑜤𑜀𑜫 (lük), Zhuang laeg, Nong Zhuang ndaek.
