មាត់
Khmer
Etymology
From Old Khmer mat (“mouth, maw; face”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *mat (“eye”). Cognate with Northern Khmer เมื็อด. Compare Juang tɔmɔɖ. The current meaning is a development from "face", which is itself derived from "eye", the root's original meaning. Compare Vietnamese mặt (“face”) and mắt (“eye”).
