Etymology
From Proto-Mon-Khmer *bn₂uum ~ *bn₂əm (“hill”). Cognate with Semelai bnʉm and Koho bönöm (“mountain”) and Santali ᱵᱩᱱᱩᱢ (bunum, “termite hill, white ant hill”). Possibly related to Vietnamese nấm (“mound”).
