ხაჭოჲ
Old Georgian
Alternative forms
- ხაჭუაჲ (xač̣uay)
Etymology
Akin to Mingrelian ხაჭო (xač̣o). Perhaps an Abkhaz-Abaza borrowing, at times derived from the ancestor of Abkhaz а-хаҷа (a-xačʼa, “cottage cheese”) or, alternatively, from Abkhaz а-хырҵәы́ (a-xərcʷʼə́, literally “sour milk”).[1][2]
