წვრილმანი

Georgian

Etymology

Marr says, that the word is formed from წვრილი (c̣vrili, small; thin) and suffix -მან which, as he states, comes from Armenian մանր (manr, small).
Shanidze denies this and says the word is formed from reduplicating წვრილი (c̣vrili): წვრ consonant cluster turning into მ, and ლ dissimilating into ნ. Compare კუჭმაჭი (ḳuč̣mač̣i), ძველმანი (ʒvelmani).

  • Hyphenation: წვრილ‧მა‧ნი
