From Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Lolopo yixr (“to lie down, to sleep”), Jingpho yup (“to sleep”), Drung ip (“to sleep”), Yakkha युप्मा (jupma, “to sleep”) and Naxi yil (“to sleep”). Doublet of သိပ် (sip).
