လှိုင်း

Burmese

Etymology

Uncertain.

Possibly a loan from Proto-Mon-Khmer *luŋh ~ *luuŋh ~ *ləŋh (to hollow, excavate, bore), whence Khmer លុង (lung, to dig a hole) and Vietnamese trũng (concave). See also Mizo lawng (to take out the heart of a wild platain tree) (Sidwell, 2006; Schuessler, 2007).
