From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-raŋ (“high; long”). Cognate with Nuosu ꀊꂥ (a hmu, “tall, high”), Lolopo mu (“high, tall”) and Drung mrvng (“long, tall”), Mongsen Ao tə́-hláŋ.
