From Proto-Southwestern Tai *mɯːᴬ⁴ (“hand”), from Proto-Tai *mwɯːᴬ (“hand”). Cognate with Thai มือ (mʉʉ), Northern Thai ᨾᩨ, Lao ມື (mư̄), Lü ᦙᦹ (mue), Shan မိုဝ်း (múe), Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜤𑜈𑜫 (müw), Zhuang mwz, Saek มื๊อ. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *qalima (“hand”).
