Etymology
From Proto-Karen *hneŋᴮ (“year”) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *nin² (“idem”) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-ni(ː)ŋ ~ s-nik. Cognate with Pa'o Karen နေင်ႏ, Western Pwo နံၪ့, Eastern Pwo ဏိင်း. Compare Western Kayah ꤔꤢ꤬ (nà).
