Borrowed from Hindi गोभी (gobhī). Myanmar Language Commission claims it is a portmanteau of ကံ့ကော် (kam.kau, “Mesua ferrea”) + သရဖီ (sa.ra.hpi, “Callophyllum amoenum”).
