From Sanskrit कोश (kośa, “container; case; pocket”); perhaps via Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer kośa (“urn, vase; goblet, chalice; coffer, casket, chest”). Compare Old Khmer koṣa, koṣaṇa, kosa; and compare Pali koṭṭha (“closet; cabinet”), from which Modern Khmer កោដ្ឋ (kaot, “royal funerary urn”) was derived.
