From Proto-Tai *C̬.lɯmᴬ (“wind”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩃᩫ᩠ᨾ, Lao ລົມ (lom), Lü ᦟᦳᧄ (lum), Shan လူမ်း (lúum), Phake လုံ (luṃ), Ahom 𑜎𑜪𑜤 (laṃu), Bouyei ndumx or rumx, Zhuang rumz. Compare Sui luml and Old Chinese 風 (OC *plum).
