Etymology 1

From Old Khmer ជ្នះ (jnaḥ, to overcome; to win; to conquer; etc) or Old Mon ဇၞး (jnaḥ, to be victorious). Extended as Thai ชำนะ. Cognate with Modern Khmer ឈ្នះ (chnĕəh), Modern Mon ဇၞး, Lao ຊະນະ (sa na).
