Etymology 1
From Old Khmer ជ្នះ (jnaḥ, “to overcome; to win; to conquer; etc”) or Old Mon ဇၞး (jnaḥ, “to be victorious”). Extended as Thai ชำนะ. Cognate with Modern Khmer ឈ្នះ (chnĕəh), Modern Mon ဇၞး, Lao ຊະນະ (sa na).
