Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *cīntu (“wild date palm”). Cognate with Kannada ಈಚಲು (īcalu), Kui (India) ସୀତା (sīta), Kurukh कींदा (kī̃ndā), Kuvi ସୀନ୍ଦି (sīndi), Gondi సీంది (sīndi), Tamil ஈச்சம் (īccam), Telugu ఈత (īta), Bengali হেঁতাল (hẽtal) and Sanskrit हिन्ताल (hintāla). Doublet of ഈന്ത് (īntŭ).
