Perhaps from Prakrit 𑀪𑀡𑁆𑀟𑀻 (bhaṇḍī), from Sanskrit भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa).[1] Cognate with Kannada ಬಂಡಿ (baṇḍi), Tamil வண்டி (vaṇṭi), Malayalam വണ്ടി (vaṇṭi).
