Inherited from Prakrit *𑀪𑀭𑀯𑀲𑁆𑀲 (*bharavassa), from Sanskrit *भरवश्य (bharavaśya, “dependence on support”), composed of भर (bhara, “load, weight, support”) + वश्य (vaśya, “dependent”). Cognate with Assamese ভৰসা (bhoroxa), Odia ଭରସା (bhôrôsa), Maithili 𑂦𑂩𑂷𑂮 (bharos), Hindustani भरोसा (bharosā) / بھروسہ (bharosa), Gujarati ભરોંસો (bharõso), Punjabi ਭਰੋਸਾ (bharosā), Sindhi ڀَروَسو (bharvaso), ڀَرِوَسو (bharoso), Marathi भर्वसा (bharvasā).
