Inherited from Early Assamese জিভা (jibha), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀚𑀺𑀩𑁆𑀪𑀸 (jibbhā), from Sanskrit জিহ্ৱা (jihbā). Cognate to Kamta জিভা (zibha), Bengali জিব (jibo), Hindi जीभ (jībh).
