Inherited from Old Bengali আগুনি (āguni), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀦𑀺 (aggani), from Sanskrit अग्नि (agni), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hagníṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hagníš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁n̥gʷnis. Cognate with Rohingya ooin, Surjapuri আগিন (agin), Assamese আগুনি (aguni). Doublet of অগ্নি (ogni).
