From Proto-Indo-Aryan *síẓḍẓatay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sízȷ́žatay, from Proto-Indo-European *sí-sǵʰ-se-ti, i-reduplicated (h₁)se-desiderative of *seǵʰ- (“to overpower”).
