Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘚𑘜𑘹 (saḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀟𑀇 (saḍaï), from Sanskrit शटति (śaṭati). Cognate with Gujarati સડવું (saḍvũ), Hindustani سَڑْنَا (saṛnā) / सड़ना (saṛnā), Sindhi سَڙَڻُ / सड़णु, Punjabi ਸੜਨਾ (saṛnā) / سَڑنا (saṛnā), Assamese সৰা (xora).
