Related to the root शुष् (śuṣ), and cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬎𐬱𐬐𐬀 (huška, dry), Persian خشک (xošk, dry), Russian суши́ть (sušítʹ, to dry), Lithuanian saũsinti, Old English sēarian (whence English sear).
