Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘱𑘽𑘐 (siṃga), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀁𑀕 (siṃga), from Sanskrit शृङ्ग (śṛṅga), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱerh₂- (“horn”). Cognate with Hindi सींग (sīṅg).
