Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *limpáti, from Proto-Indo-European *leyp- (“to smear”). Cognate with Ancient Greek λιπαίνω (lipaínō, “to oil”), Lithuanian lipìnti (“to stick”), Old English libban (English live).
