Borrowed from Sanskrit लिपि (lipi), from Old Persian 𐎮𐎡𐎱𐎡 (dipi), from Elamite 𒁾 (/⁠tippi⁠/), from Akkadian 𒁾 (/⁠ṭuppu⁠/, tablet, document, letter), from Sumerian 𒁾 (dub, tablet). Compare to Gujarati લિપિ (lipi), Hindi लिपि (lipi), Punjabi ਲਿਪੀ (lipī) / ਲਿਪਿ (lipi), Bengali লিপি (lipi) and Malayalam ലിപി (lipi).
