Inherited from Old Marathi लसण (lasaṇa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀮𑀲𑀡 (lasaṇa) or 𑀮𑀲𑀼𑀡 (lasuṇa), from Sanskrit लशुन (laśuna). Cognates include Bengali রসুন (rośun), Gujarati લસણ (lasaṇ), Hindi लहसुन (lahsun), Urdu لہسن (lahsun), Rajasthani लसण, Nepali लसुन (lasuna).
