Etymology
Of uncertain origin. Tedesco reconstructs *मिल्(ह्) (mil(h)) as the original form of the root, and derives it from *मिश्लति (miślati, “to mix up”), relating it ultimately to मिश्र (miśra, “mixed”). Not related to Ancient Greek ἅμιλλα (hámilla, “competition, conflict”).
