Borrowed from Classical Persian بازیگر (bāzīgar). First attested as Old Hindi बाजीगर (bājīgara). By surface analysis, बाज़ी (bāzī) + -गर (-gar). Compare Assamese বাজিকৰ (bazikor), Bengali বাজিগর (bajigor), Gujarati બાજીગર (bājīgar), Kannada ಬಾಜಿಗಾರ (bājigāra), Odia ବାଜିଗର (bajigôrô), Punjabi ਬਾਜ਼ੀਗਰ (bāzīgar) / بازِی گَر (bāzī gar).
