Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *paršás (bundle (of leaves), sheaf), from Proto-Indo-European *pers-ó-s, from the root *pers- (bundle of leaves; bunched up leaves). Cognate with Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬭𐬱𐬀 (parša, ear of corn), Latin porrum (leek) and possibly Ancient Greek πράσον (práson, leek).
