परितस् • (parítas)

1. (with or without object with accusative case) round about, around, on all sides, all around
   • c. 1200 BCE – 1000 BCE, Atharvaveda 10.7.38.2:

     तस्मिं छ्रयन्ते य उ के च देवा वृक्षस्य स्कन्धः परित इव शाखाः ॥

     tasmiṃ chrayante ya u ke ca devā vṛkṣasya skandhaḥ parita iva śākhāḥ.

       To him the Deities, one and all betake them. So stand the tree-trunk with the branches round it.

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 11.7.62:

     एकदा जग्मतुस्तासामन्नार्थं तौ कुटुम्बिनौ । परितः कानने तस्मिन्नर्थिनौ चेरतुश्चिरम् ॥

     ekadā jagmatustāsāmannārthaṃ tau kuṭumbinau. paritaḥ kānane tasminnarthinau ceratuściram.

     Once the two householders went to find food for them [their children]. All around the forest, the two seekers wandered for a long time.

     There is grass near the house. Students are playing around the school. No one seems hungry.
