Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀙𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝 (chuṭṭa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-).[1] Compare छूटना (chūṭnā, to be released) and छूट (chūṭ, liberty, freedom). Cognate with Punjabi ਛੁੱਟ (chuṭṭa) / چُھٹّ (chuṭṭ), Gujarati છુટ્ટું (chuṭṭũ), Marathi सुटे (suṭe).
