Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀔𑁂𑀟 (kheḍa), 𑀔𑁂𑀟𑀬 (kheḍaya), from Sanskrit खेट (kheṭa), खेटक (kheṭak). Compare Gujarati ખેડ (kheḍ), Hindustani کھیڑا (kheṛā) / खेड़ा (kheṛā), Punjabi ਖੇੜਾ (kheṛā) / کھیڑا (kheṛā), Odia ଖେଡ଼ (kheṛô).
