Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀭 (*kikkara). Cognate with Punjabi ਕਿੱਕਰ (kikkar). Related to Sanskrit किङ्किराल (kiṅkirāla). Ultimately, from the same substrate as बबूल.
