Etymology

Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence Punjabi ਕੱਚਾ (kaccā), ultimately from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀘𑁆𑀘- (*kacca-), whence also the native form काँचा (kā̃cā).[1] Compare Sanskrit काषण (kāṣaṇa, unripe). Cognate with Bengali কাঁচা (kãca).
