Etymology
Of unknown origin. McGregor tentatively postulates a combination of कान (kān, “ear”) + चुस (cus, “be sucked”), lit. "ear-sucked"; compare मक्खीचूस (makkhīcūs, “miser, lit. fly-sucker”) for a similar formation.
