Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘎𑘯𑘜𑘹 (ukaḷaṇe, to flow abundantly, to burst out), transitive from Sanskrit उत्कालयति (utkālayati, drives out). Compare Gujarati ઊકળવું (ūkaḷvũ), Hindi उकलना (ukalnā).
