Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *aźʰám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *aȷ́ʰám, from Proto-Indo-European *éǵh₂óm. Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬰𐬇𐬨 (azə̄m), Ancient Greek ἐγώ (egṓ), Latin ego, Old English ic (whence English I).
