Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *aśiHtíṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *aštaHtí, from Proto-Indo-European *oḱtoh₁ḱomt (“eight-ten”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὀγδοήκοντα (ogdoḗkonta), Latin octōgintā.
