Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀭𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀯𑀸𑀲𑀺𑀁 (*raṭṭhavāsiṃ) (compare Pali raṭṭhavāsin), from Sanskrit राष्ट्रवासिन् (rāṣṭravāsin); equivalent to ރަށް (raṣ̊, country) + ވެހި (vehi, dweller). Doublet of ރަށްވެހި (raṣ̊vehi, friend, countryman), a new formation from the same elements; cognate to Sinhalese රටවැසි (raṭawæsi). .
